MEV's research house was held in Shanghai, China from October 10th to October 17th. All members of Titania Research were invited, and we were able to spend a fulfilling time with the Chinese Ethereum community, researchers, and developers.
In this article, I would like to reflect on and share my impressions as a participant, so that I can contribute, however small, to this activity. I hope that by recording the atmosphere and impressions of the house, I can continue to contribute to the promotion of such noble activities in the future.
MEV Shanghai
MEV Shanghai is a research house and event organized by Franci from Panta Rhei. The main program is a one-week shared house with related researchers and engineers and a session-style event with invited speakers.
This activity was inspired by MEV TOKTO, which we previously organized, and we communicated with them before MEV Shanghai and provided simple support for the operation side.
In the end, about 7 to 8 people stayed in the house, and a few people who were not staying there came to hang out during the day. During the day, we ate meals together and each person worked on their own tasks, and at night we often had discussions or interacted through card games.
On the first day of the house, Ambition gave an explanation of the house and the MEV Literature Review. This review summarized what discussions were taking place in what context. The pros and cons of MEV were also listed as topics, and it was interesting to be able to talk about those topics between different nationalities.
Ambition presentation
In the middle of the House, Mark, Ota and I also took to the stage in the House. Mark spoke about sandwich attacks, Ota about his own research and I about finality. It was a pretty casual atmosphere, but we were able to have a relaxed discussion.
My presentation
In the second half of the House, there was an event in central Shanghai where speakers were invited. I wasn't able to fully participate in the event, but I was glad that I was able to interact with the Chinese community and observe what was going on.
Personal impressions
First of all, I am deeply moved by the fact that such a wonderful activity that inspired Titania Research's activities took place outside of Japan. For some time now, I have been recording the effects, reflections, and learnings in both Japanese and English every time I hold a research house or event. Thanks to that, our activities, which almost no one knew about a year ago, seem to be starting to spread globally.
There is a proverb from the Heian period(in japan) that says, "Even the smallest things can become a mountain," and little by little, I am experiencing the meaning of this saying. We have a value of "continuing modest things for a long time." The research house that stimulates research and its emergence is by no means flashy. However, we would like to continue to actively support events like this in the future. If you would like to hold a similar activity in the future, please feel free to contact us.
Secondly, MEV Shanghai was very casual and comfortable. Personally, I think my understanding of consensus has improved considerably through discussions with Ambition and Davide. I also felt energized by receiving their invisible energy, such as their heat. I think this is one of the great benefits of spending time together at the research house.
Finally, I would like to thank everyone involved in this wonderful space, Franci and Ambition, the sponsors and speakers, and Fudan University.
